Slowing Down to Notice Differences

One of the most profound gifts of the Feldenkrais Method is the reminder to slow down and strive to discern differences. I often feel like I have no choice but to rush to meet one responsibility after another, but is that really true? If I pause for even a couple of seconds and ask myself, "Can you sit outside to enjoy the golden sunlight instead of just rushing through dinner indoors?" , the answer is almost always, "Yes." Sometimes we only have moments to revel in the pleasurable sensations that are available to us, but noticing their presence makes all the difference. The quality of our lives improves through the simple act of noticing the small details that bring us pleasure. The same principle can hold true for alleviating pain. Slow down enough to notice the small details of your habitual movements. Do your knees point slightly inwards or outwards when you stand? When you walk? Those tiny differences can lead you toward optimal coordination if you let them. Notice 5 small details about your life today and see what a difference it can make!
